Overview

NST001 (HYA) is an orally active postbiotic small molecule developed by Noster Inc., chemically identified as 10-hydroxy-cis-7-dodecenoic acid. It is a gut microbial metabolite derived from the metabolism of linoleic acid by certain lactic acid bacteria, such as *Lactobacillus plantarum*. NST001 acts as an agonist of the G-protein coupled receptor GPR120 (also known as Free fatty acid receptor 4 or FFAR4), which is involved in anti-inflammatory signaling and metabolic homeostasis. The drug is being investigated in clinical trials for its potential to prevent skeletal muscle atrophy induced by postoperative immobilization, particularly in patients undergoing surgery for knee cartilage injuries like osteochondritis dissecans. By activating GPR120, NST001 is thought to modulate metabolic pathways that help maintain muscle mass and function during periods of inactivity.
