MT2 (11α-O-2-methylbutanoyl-12β-O-tigloyl-tenacigenin B) is a steroid aglycone isolated from the stems of *Marsdenia tenacissima*, a plant used in traditional Chinese medicine for cancer treatment. It acts as a potent sensitizer for chemotherapy by reversing multidrug resistance (MDR). MT2 achieves this by downregulating the expression of the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters P-glycoprotein (P-gp/ABCB1) and multidrug resistance-associated protein 2 (MRP2/ABCC2), and by directly inhibiting the efflux transport function of P-gp. Preclinical research indicates that MT2 significantly enhances the efficacy of drugs such as paclitaxel, docetaxel, and vinblastine in resistant cervical cancer cell lines and xenograft models, potentially offering a strategy to overcome chemoresistance in clinical settings.
