Drug intelligence / Profile preview
1100 ppm NaF Fluoride Dentifrice is a topical oral care formulation developed by Procter & Gamble, containing sodium fluoride (NaF) as its active ingredient at a concentration of 1,100 parts per million (ppm) of fluoride ion. Sodium fluoride acts on tooth enamel and dentine by promoting the remineralization of subsurface lesions and inhibiting demineralization, thereby targeting the biological process of mineral loss that underlies dental caries. Additionally, fluoride ions inhibit bacterial enolase (phosphopyruvate hydratase), disrupting glycolysis and acid production in cariogenic bacteria such as Streptococcus mutans. This formulation is widely used as a standard positive control comparator in double-blind, randomized, crossover in-situ clinical trials evaluating the efficacy of experimental dentifrice formulations. It is approved and marketed for the prevention and treatment of dental caries.
