Drug intelligence / Profile preview
11C-BIO-1819578 (also known as [11C]BIO-1819578) is a carbon-11 labeled positron emission tomography (PET) radioligand developed by Biogen in collaboration with Karolinska Institutet and Sentonix. It is designed to target and image O-GlcNAcase (OGA) in the living brain. OGA is an enzyme that catalyzes the removal of O-linked β-N-acetylglucosamine (O-GlcNAc) modifications from proteins, and its inhibition is a therapeutic strategy to prevent the aggregation of hyperphosphorylated tau protein in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease. 11C-BIO-1819578 is utilized as a diagnostic imaging tool to evaluate target engagement and determine brain OGA occupancy of therapeutic OGA inhibitors, such as Biogen's BIIB113, in clinical trials.
