11C-CFT is a radiopharmaceutical used as a positron emission tomography (PET) tracer to visualize and quantify the dopamine transporter (DAT) in the brain. It is a cocaine analog that binds with high affinity and selectivity to presynaptic DAT, primarily located in the striatum (caudate and putamen). By measuring DAT density, 11C-CFT PET imaging serves as a biomarker for the integrity of nigrostriatal dopaminergic neurons. It is extensively used in clinical research and diagnosis to differentiate Parkinson's disease from other movement disorders, assess disease progression, and evaluate the occupancy of dopamine transporters by therapeutic drugs like toludesvenlafaxine. The tracer is typically produced in-house by facilities equipped with a cyclotron due to the short half-life of the Carbon-11 isotope.
