11C-EMO (also known as [11C]GSK1034702) is a carbon-11 labeled radiopharmaceutical used as a positron emission tomography (PET) imaging agent to quantify muscarinic M1 receptor (CHRM1) availability in the human brain. It is a radiolabeled analog of GSK1034702, a potent and selective orthosteric M1 receptor agonist originally developed by GSK. 11C-EMO was developed for clinical research by the Yale PET Center to investigate the pathophysiology of neuropsychiatric disorders, such as schizophrenia and Alzheimer's disease, where cholinergic dysfunction and M1 receptor deficits are implicated in cognitive impairment. By binding selectively to M1 receptors, the tracer allows researchers to measure receptor density and distribution in vivo, providing insights into the relationship between receptor availability and cognitive performance.
