**11C-flumazenil** is a radiolabeled form of flumazenil, where the molecule is tagged with the radioactive isotope carbon-11. It is primarily used as a positron emission tomography (PET) radioligand to image and quantify central benzodiazepine receptors (GABA_A receptor complexes) in the human brain. The mechanism of action involves high-affinity, competitive antagonism at the benzodiazepine binding site on GABA_A receptors, allowing visualization and quantification of receptor density and occupancy in vivo. This tool is widely used in neuroscience research for studying various neuropsychiatric disorders, epilepsy, anxiety disorders, and for evaluating drug-receptor interactions[7][8][10]. Unlike therapeutic flumazenil formulations (which are used clinically to reverse benzodiazepine effects), 11C-flumazenil's primary role is as a diagnostic imaging agent.
