Drug intelligence / Profile preview
11C-labeled thymine-carborane conjugates are a class of carbon-11 radiolabeled thymidine and 4'-thiothymidine derivatives conjugated with carborane clusters, developed by RIKEN and the National Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology for PET imaging-guided boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT). These conjugates are designed to target thymidine kinase 1 (TK1), an enzyme highly expressed in proliferating cancer cells. By combining the tumor-targeting capability of thymidine analogs with the high boron content of carboranes, these agents serve as theranostic tools to non-invasively evaluate the biodistribution of boron agents in vivo and optimize the spatiotemporal parameters of neutron-beam irradiation during BNCT.
