Overview

11C-methylreboxetine is a radiolabeled derivative of reboxetine, specifically labeled with carbon-11, developed as a positron emission tomography (PET) radioligand for imaging the norepinephrine transporter (NET) in the brain. It is used primarily in research settings to visualize and quantify NET distribution and density in vivo. The compound acts as a selective ligand for NET, enabling studies of noradrenergic function in various neurological and psychiatric conditions such as depression, ADHD, drug addiction, eating disorders, and autonomic dysfunction. Its mechanism involves binding to the norepinephrine transporter at adrenergic nerve terminals; it does not have therapeutic effects but serves as an imaging agent to assess NET availability or occupancy by other drugs[1][2][6][8].
