11C-UCB-J is a PET (Positron Emission Tomography) tracer used for imaging synaptic vesicle glycoprotein 2A (SV2A) in the human brain. It binds with high affinity and selectivity to SV2A, which is ubiquitously and homogeneously located in synapses across the brain. This radiotracer enables the quantitative measurement of synaptic density in living humans and tracking of changes in synaptic density associated with various neurological and psychiatric disorders. It has been used to study brain changes in conditions such as Alzheimer's disease, schizophrenia, depression, autism, Parkinson's disease, and temporal lobe epilepsy.
