11C-vorozole is a carbon-11 labeled radiopharmaceutical used as a positron emission tomography (PET) tracer to noninvasively visualize and quantify aromatase (CYP19A1) expression in vivo. It is a radiolabeled version of S-vorozole, a potent and selective nonsteroidal competitive aromatase inhibitor. By binding to the aromatase enzyme, 11C-vorozole allows for the assessment of enzyme density in tissues such as the breast and brain. In clinical research, it is primarily used to identify aromatase-overexpressing breast tumors, potentially aiding in the selection of patients for aromatase inhibitor therapy and monitoring target engagement by drugs like letrozole.
