The 12-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine is a vaccine designed to protect against pneumococcal diseases caused by *Streptococcus pneumoniae* in infants and young children. It contains purified capsular polysaccharides from 12 specific pneumococcal serotypes (1, 4, 5, 6B, 7F, 9V, 14, 23F, 19F, 18C, 6A, and 19A) conjugated to various carrier proteins, including non-typeable *Haemophilus influenzae* protein D, tetanus toxoid (TD), diphtheria toxoid (TT), and CRM197. The vaccine aims to induce an immune response to prevent invasive pneumococcal disease. It is being evaluated for immunologic non-inferiority compared to existing 10-valent and 13-valent vaccines and has been developed by companies such as SK bioscience and Bio-Manguinhos/Fiocruz.
