123I AV94 is a radiopharmaceutical imaging agent developed as a potential biomarker for β-amyloid deposition in the brain. It is used with single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) to visualize and quantify amyloid plaques, which are characteristic of Alzheimer's disease. The mechanism of action involves the binding of 123I AV94 to β-amyloid aggregates in neural tissue, allowing their detection via SPECT imaging. The compound was evaluated primarily for its ability to differentiate between individuals with Alzheimer's disease and healthy controls by assessing dynamic uptake and washout patterns in the brain. Clinical studies were conducted at the Institute for Neurodegenerative Disorders (IND) and Molecular NeuroImaging (MNI). Development appears to have been terminated after early-phase clinical trials[1][2][3].
