Overview

This is a combination of two radiopharmaceutical imaging agents. 123I-FP-CIT (ioflupane) is a cocaine analog that selectively binds to dopamine transporters (DAT) in the brain, used primarily for diagnosing Parkinsonian syndromes and differentiating between essential tremor and Parkinson's disease. 123I-ADAM selectively binds to serotonin transporters (5-HTT) in the central nervous system. Both utilize the radioactive isotope iodine-123 which has a physical half-life of 13 hours and emits gamma rays with an energy of 159 keV, making them suitable for SPECT imaging. The combination allows for assessment of both dopaminergic and serotonergic systems.
