Overview
123I-IMPY is a novel radiopharmaceutical used as a diagnostic imaging agent for the detection of β-amyloid plaques in the brain, primarily in patients with Alzheimer's disease. It is a radioiodinated derivative of imidazopyridine that selectively binds to amyloid plaques, enabling visualization via single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT). The compound demonstrates high affinity and specificity for β-amyloid aggregates, with rapid blood clearance and sustained retention in amyloid-rich brain regions. Its primary clinical application is as an imaging biomarker to aid early diagnosis and monitor progression of Alzheimer's disease. Initial studies indicate favorable safety and dosimetry profiles in both healthy volunteers and AD patients[1][3][10].
