124I-PU-AD is a radiolabeled small molecule consisting of the Hsp90 inhibitor PU-AD tagged with the positron-emitting isotope iodine-124. The compound is designed for use in PET imaging to track the biodistribution and brain penetration of Hsp90 inhibitors in vivo. PU-AD itself is able to cross the blood-brain barrier and specifically targets stress-induced heat shock protein 90 (Hsp90), which plays a role in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease and certain cancers[1][2][4][6]. When labeled with iodine‑124, it enables noninvasive visualization using PET/CT scans to assess drug delivery and target engagement within tissues including the brain[2][3][6].
