Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13) developed by Beijing Zhifei Lvzhu Biopharmaceutical is a biologic vaccine designed for active immunization against pneumococcal disease caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae. It consists of purified capsular polysaccharides from 13 distinct serotypes of S. pneumoniae, each covalently conjugated to a carrier protein, such as diphtheria toxoid or tetanus toxoid, to enhance immunogenicity by inducing a T-cell dependent immune response. This formulation is intended to prevent invasive pneumococcal disease and pneumococcal pneumonia. In clinical research, it has been utilized as a comparator to evaluate the safety and immunogenicity of higher-valency candidates, including the company's 26-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV26).
