Overview

This is a combination of two vaccines administered together: - The **13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13)**, commonly known as Prevnar 13, is designed to provide active immunization against pneumonia and invasive disease caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae serotypes included in the formulation. It works by inducing an immune response to the polysaccharide antigens of these serotypes conjugated to a carrier protein. - The **trivalent inactivated influenza vaccine (TIV)** is formulated annually to protect against three strains of seasonal influenza virus (typically two A subtypes and one B subtype). It contains inactivated viral antigens that stimulate protective antibody responses. The combination has been studied for coadministration primarily in adults aged 50 years or older. Clinical trials have shown that simultaneous administration is generally well tolerated but may result in slightly lower antibody responses for some pneumococcal serotypes compared with separate administration; the clinical significance of this reduction remains uncertain. Both components are approved individually for prevention of their respective diseases[2][3][6].
