Overview

1301B7 is a recombinant human monoclonal antibody that targets the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein. It was developed from a convalescent individual following Omicron infection and demonstrates potent neutralization against a broad range of SARS-CoV-2 variants, including the original Wuhan-1 strain, Omicron JN.1, XBB.1.5, and even SARS-CoV[1][3][4][5]. The antibody binds exclusively through its VH1-69 heavy chain to conserved residues within the RBD—such as Y501 and H505—enabling it to maintain efficacy despite viral mutations[2][4]. In preclinical studies, 1301B7 significantly reduced viral loads in both upper and lower respiratory tracts of mice challenged with Omicron subvariants[2]. Its broad specificity suggests potential for both prophylactic and therapeutic use against current and future coronavirus variants as well as for guiding universal vaccine development[3][5].
