131I-isoFtAb is a radioimmunotherapeutic agent consisting of an antibody directed against human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) isoferritin, labeled with the radioactive isotope iodine-131 (131I). Developed primarily by researchers at the Liver Cancer Institute of Zhongshan Hospital (Fudan University), it was investigated as a targeted therapy for nonresectable HCC. The drug is typically administered via intrahepatic arterial infusion to deliver high doses of beta-radiation directly to the tumor site. In clinical trials during the late 1980s and early 1990s, it was used in combination with chemotherapy and immunotherapy to induce tumor shrinkage, potentially allowing for subsequent surgical resection (second-look resection) in patients with initially inoperable disease.
