Overview

131I-p607E is a radiolabeled synthetic decapeptide derived from luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH). It is developed as an immunogen for use in LHRH-based vaccines, which are investigated for immunocastration and the immunotherapy of prostate cancer. By labeling the p607E peptide with the radioisotope Iodine-131 (131I), researchers can perform longitudinal microSPECT/CT imaging to evaluate the retention and pharmacokinetics of the vaccine at the injection site. The therapeutic mechanism involves inducing the immune system to produce antibodies that neutralize endogenous LHRH, thereby inhibiting the secretion of gonadotropins and reducing testosterone production, a process known as medical or immunocastration.
