Drug intelligence / Profile preview
131I-SAP is a radiolabelled diagnostic agent composed of serum amyloid P component (SAP) tagged with iodine-131. It functions as a specific tracer for detecting and imaging amyloid deposits in systemic amyloidosis. While iodine-131 has less ideal physical characteristics for scintigraphy compared to iodine-123, its lower cost and longer half-life allow for more prolonged turnover measurements, which are valuable for monitoring disease progression and assessing treatment response over time.
