13vPnC + TIV

13vPnC + TIV refers to the concomitant administration of Pfizer's 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (13vPnC, brand name Prevnar 13) and a trivalent inactivated influenza vaccine (TIV). The 13vPnC component is a conjugate vaccine containing capsular polysaccharides from 13 serotypes of Streptococcus pneumoniae (1, 3, 4, 5, 6A, 6B, 7F, 9V, 14, 18C, 19A, 19F, and 23F), each individually conjugated to a non-toxic diphtheria toxin CRM197 carrier protein to enhance the immune response. TIV is a seasonal influenza vaccine containing inactivated hemagglutinin antigens from three influenza virus strains, typically including two Influenza A subtypes (H1N1 and H3N2) and one Influenza B lineage. This combination was evaluated in Phase 3 clinical trials to assess the safety, tolerability, and immunogenicity of co-administering these vaccines in adults aged 50 years and older, particularly those 65 years or older, to ensure that simultaneous vaccination does not negatively impact the immune response to either pathogen.
