14,15-epoxyeicosatrienoic acid (14,15-EET) is a bioactive lipid metabolite of arachidonic acid, synthesized primarily by cytochrome P450 (CYP) epoxygenases. As a member of the epoxyeicosatrienoic acid family, it functions as an autocrine and paracrine signaling molecule with significant roles in cardiovascular and renal physiology. 14,15-EET is recognized as an endothelium-derived hyperpolarizing factor (EDHF) that induces vasodilation by activating large-conductance calcium-activated potassium (BK) channels in vascular smooth muscle cells. Additionally, it exhibits anti-inflammatory, anti-apoptotic, and cardioprotective properties, often mediated through the activation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs).
