Overview

The **14-valent pneumococcal vaccine** (PNEUBEVAX 14) is a protein-polysaccharide conjugate vaccine developed to prevent invasive disease caused by *Streptococcus pneumoniae*. It targets 14 different pneumococcal serotypes, including 22F and 33F, which are not present in earlier PCV-10 or PCV-13 vaccines. The vaccine works by inducing serotype-specific antibody responses, facilitating opsonization and phagocytosis of the bacteria, and thereby preventing infection. In phase 3 clinical trials in infants, both single-dose and multi-dose presentations of PNEUBEVAX 14 demonstrated safety, robust immunogenicity, and were non-inferior to PCV-13 for overlapping serotypes. It is administered on a 6–10–14-week schedule in infancy and is intended to broaden serotype coverage for pneumococcal disease prevention, particularly in settings with high disease burden and circulation of the included serotypes[3].
