Overview

14DPQ (1,4-diphenylquinoxaline) is a small molecule research compound that has been investigated primarily as a selective inhibitor of phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4), with particular interest in its PDE4D isoform selectivity. PDE4 is a key enzyme responsible for the hydrolysis of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) in various tissues, including the central nervous system and inflammatory cells. By inhibiting PDE4, 14DPQ increases intracellular cAMP levels, which can modulate inflammatory responses and enhance synaptic plasticity. In preclinical models, 14DPQ has demonstrated potential in improving cognitive function and memory, leading to research into its application for neurodegenerative conditions such as Alzheimer's disease and other forms of cognitive impairment. Unlike some earlier PDE4 inhibitors that were limited by emetic side effects, research into compounds like 14DPQ often focuses on achieving therapeutic efficacy with a reduced side-effect profile through isoform selectivity.
