Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The 16-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide conjugate vaccine is a vaccine candidate being developed by Rongsheng Investment (Ronsen Biotech) for the prevention of pneumococcal disease caused by *Streptococcus pneumoniae*. As a conjugate vaccine, it consists of capsular polysaccharides from 16 different serotypes of the bacteria, each chemically linked to a carrier protein. This conjugation enhances the immune response, particularly in infants and young children, by inducing T-cell dependent immunity and long-term immunological memory. The vaccine is currently in the preclinical stage of development and aims to provide broader protection than existing lower-valency conjugate vaccines.
