Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a combination therapy consisting of 17 alpha-hydroxyprogesterone caproate (17-OHPC) and omega-3 fatty acid supplementation. The combination was studied in a randomized, double-masked, placebo-controlled trial to assess whether adding omega-3 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids would enhance the effectiveness of 17-OHPC in preventing recurrent preterm birth in women with a history of prior spontaneous preterm birth. In the study, all participants received weekly intramuscular 17-OHPC (250 mg), while the treatment group additionally received daily omega-3 supplements (1,200 mg eicosapentaenoic acid and 800 mg docosahexaenoic acid).
