Overview

17-picolinylidene-androst-4-en-3beta-ol is a synthetic heterocyclic steroidal compound belonging to the class of 17-substituted androstane derivatives. It is being investigated as a potential anticancer agent, particularly for the treatment of aggressive and resistant cancers such as triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) and prostate cancer. The compound is designed to incorporate a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic moiety (picolinylidene) at the C-17 position of the steroid scaffold to enhance its pharmacological activity. Research indicates that this drug candidate exerts its effects by inhibiting cell proliferation, inducing apoptotic cell death, and causing changes in cell cycle distribution. It has demonstrated selective antiproliferative activity against PC3 prostate cancer cells and MDA-MB-231 triple-negative breast cancer cells, aiming to provide a targeted therapeutic option with high selectivity and low systemic toxicity.
