Overview

177Lu-DOTA-CC-PSMA is an experimental radiopharmaceutical designed for the targeted treatment of prostate cancer. It utilizes a prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) targeting ligand conjugated to the beta-emitting radioisotope Lutetium-177 ($^{177}$Lu) via a DOTA chelator. A distinguishing feature of this compound is its synthesis through click chemistry (specifically reacting 177Lu-DOTA-N3 with a PSMA-alkyne compound), which allows for radiolabeling under milder conditions compared to traditional high-temperature methods. This approach is intended to preserve the biological activity and targeting affinity of the PSMA ligand. Once administered, the drug binds to PSMA-expressing tumor cells, where the Lutetium-177 delivers localized ionizing radiation to induce cell death.
