177Lu-immunoliposomes are nanoscale liposomal carriers functionalized with antibodies, designed for molecular targeted radiotherapy. They are loaded with the radionuclide lutetium-177 (^177Lu), which provides cytotoxic radiation, and are conjugated to antibodies targeting surface markers such as CD24 and CD26. This dual-function platform combines immunotherapy (via monoclonal antibody targeting) and radiopharmaceutical therapy, enhancing tumor cell killing—especially cancer stem cells—by inducing both direct cytotoxicity and apoptosis. Preclinical studies show significant inhibition of proliferation and induction of apoptosis in malignant mesothelioma cell populations.
