Overview
The 17DD yellow fever vaccine is a **live attenuated viral vaccine** developed and manufactured in Brazil by Bio-Manguinhos/Fiocruz for the prevention of yellow fever. It contains the live attenuated **17DD substrain of yellow fever virus**, a derivative of the 17D vaccine lineage originally attenuated from the Asibi strain through serial passage in chicken embryo tissue culture. After subcutaneous or intramuscular administration as a single-dose injection, the vaccine induces protective humoral and cellular immune responses against yellow fever virus, with high seroconversion and long-lasting immunity. It is a WHO-prequalified biologic used in routine immunization and outbreak-control campaigns, particularly in endemic regions of Latin America and Africa.
