Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**186Re-blue-biotin-liposomes** is an investigational therapeutic radioliposomal formulation developed at **UT Health San Antonio** for intraperitoneal treatment of advanced ovarian cancer with peritoneal carcinomatosis. It consists of the beta-emitting therapeutic radionuclide rhenium-186 encapsulated in biotin-functionalized liposomes containing patent blue dye for visible tracking. Following intraperitoneal administration, avidin is administered separately to bind liposome-surface biotin and promote retention of the radioliposomes in the peritoneal cavity. Localized rhenium-186 radiation is intended to induce tumor-cell DNA damage while limiting systemic exposure. The formulation was evaluated preclinically in an OVCAR-3 ovarian cancer xenograft rat model and has no known brand name or clinical-stage development program.
