Drug intelligence / Profile preview
188Re-cetuximab is a theranostic radiopharmaceutical consisting of the anti-EGFR monoclonal antibody cetuximab directly labeled with the beta- and gamma-emitting radionuclide rhenium-188 (188Re). It is designed for the targeted radioimmunotherapy and imaging of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)-overexpressing solid tumors, such as non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), colorectal cancer, and head and neck cancers. The cetuximab component binds specifically to EGFR on tumor cells, inhibiting downstream signaling pathways and facilitating internalization of the radioconjugate. Once localized, the high-energy beta-minus emissions of rhenium-188 deliver localized cytotoxic radiation to induce DNA double-strand breaks and tumor cell death, while its gamma emissions allow for non-invasive SPECT imaging to monitor biodistribution and tumor targeting.
