**188Re-N-DEDC lipiodol** is an investigational therapeutic radiopharmaceutical for trans-arterial radionuclide therapy of unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma, including disease associated with portal vein thrombosis. It consists of the lipophilic beta-emitting rhenium-188 nitrido bis(diethyldithiocarbamate) complex, [188ReN(DEDC)2], extracted into Lipiodol, an iodized oil vehicle that preferentially localizes in hepatic tumor lesions after hepatic-artery administration. Local retention enables beta radiation delivery to tumor tissue and consequent radiation-induced cellular and DNA damage. Freeze-dried preparation kits were developed at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre for on-site labeling from a tungsten-188/rhenium-188 generator.
