18F-5-FPTRP

18F-5-FPTRP is a radiolabeled tryptophan analog developed as a positron emission tomography (PET) imaging agent for oncology. It specifically targets the Large Amino Acid Transporter 1 (LAT1), a protein that is significantly overexpressed in many types of cancer to facilitate the high demand for amino acids required for rapid cell proliferation. Unlike 18F-FDG, which measures glucose metabolism and can show high background uptake in the brain, 18F-5-FPTRP provides high-contrast imaging of tumors with low normal brain interference. It is primarily investigated for the detection and characterization of gliomas and other solid tumors, offering insights into the amino acid transport mechanisms of the tumor microenvironment.
