Drug intelligence / Profile preview
18F-CAIX refers to fluorine-18 (18F) labeled radiopharmaceuticals targeting carbonic anhydrase IX (CAIX), which are developed as positron emission tomography (PET) imaging tracers. CAIX is a transmembrane protein that is highly overexpressed in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) and other hypoxic solid tumors, while showing very limited expression in normal tissues. Consequently, 18F-CAIX PET/CT imaging is being investigated as a non-invasive diagnostic tool for the detection, staging, and characterization of renal tumors and other CAIX-positive malignancies. Peking University First Hospital and other institutions have initiated clinical trials to evaluate the safety, biodistribution, and diagnostic performance of 18F-CAIX tracers in patients with renal masses or suspected renal cell carcinoma.
