18F-CP6A is a fluorine-18 labeled positron emission tomography (PET) imaging agent designed to target and bind to aggregated α-synuclein protein in the brain. It is being developed as a diagnostic radiopharmaceutical for the detection and evaluation of synucleinopathies, including Parkinson's disease, Lewy body disease, and multiple system atrophy. The compound is a derivative of CP6A, itself an optimized version of F0502B—a small molecule with high affinity and selectivity for α-synuclein aggregates. By binding specifically to pathological α-synuclein deposits (Lewy bodies), 18F-CP6A enables visualization via PET imaging, potentially aiding early diagnosis and subtyping of neurodegenerative diseases characterized by synuclein pathology. Preclinical studies have demonstrated good safety profiles in animal models[1][2][5].
