Overview
18F-FMPP is a novel radiopharmaceutical used as a positron emission tomography (PET) imaging agent. It is primarily developed as a myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) tracer targeting mitochondrial complex I in cardiac tissue. Preclinical and clinical studies indicate that 18F-FMPP demonstrates high and uniform uptake in the heart with low background activity in the liver, making it suitable for assessing myocardial perfusion and ischemia. Additionally, research has explored its use as a PET tracer for cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) expression imaging due to its specific binding properties observed in COX-2 positive cells. The compound is administered intravenously and is not currently approved for clinical use outside of trials[1][2][4].
