18F-FT-FAPI is a positron emission tomography (PET) radiotracer designed to target fibroblast activation protein alpha (FAP), a protein highly expressed on cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) within the tumor microenvironment and in various fibrotic conditions. Developed by researchers at the First Affiliated Hospital of the People's Liberation Army Air Force Military Medical University (Xijing Hospital), this tracer utilizes the fluorine-18 isotope, which offers advantages such as a longer half-life (110 minutes) compared to gallium-68, enabling centralized production and high-resolution imaging. The ligand, FT-FAPI, is a small molecule inhibitor derivative that binds with high affinity to FAP. It is currently being evaluated in clinical studies to assess its safety, biodistribution, and diagnostic utility in healthy volunteers and potentially in patients with various malignancies or fibrotic diseases.
