Overview

18F-JSS20-183A is an investigational **positron emission tomography (PET) radiotracer** developed to quantify **4-Repeat Tau (4R tau) protein** in the brain. Accumulation of 4R tau is characteristic of a group of neurodegenerative disorders known as **tauopathies**, which include conditions such as Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), Corticobasal Syndrome (CBS), genetic Frontotemporal Lobar Degeneration (genetic FTLD), Parkinson's disease, and Alzheimer's disease. The drug is being studied mainly to determine its **biodistribution, metabolism, excretion, and brain uptake** for imaging purposes. The current lead development and trials are overseen by the University of Pennsylvania with collaboration from several academic research centers, supported by NIH funding. The aim is to use this PET tracer to better diagnose and understand tau-related neurodegenerative diseases[2][3][4][5][7][8][9].
