Drug intelligence / Profile preview
18F-labeled anti-BCMA nanobody (specifically [18F]FPy-BCMA-Nb) is a radiolabeled single-domain antibody (nanobody) targeting B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA), developed by researchers at the National Cancer Institute (NCI), the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), and the University of Miami. It is designed as a high-contrast positron emission tomography (PET) imaging agent for the detection and monitoring of multiple myeloma, particularly for visualizing heterogeneous bone marrow involvement and minimal residual disease. The nanobody is conjugated to an [18F]fluoropyridine ([18F]FPy) prosthetic group, which provides a favorable pharmacokinetic profile characterized by rapid systemic clearance, minimal renal accumulation, and high tumor-to-background ratios. In preclinical studies, this imaging agent has been evaluated alongside a companion therapeutic counterpart labeled with iodine-131 ([131I]I-BCMA-Nb) as part of a theranostic platform for multiple myeloma.
