Drug intelligence / Profile preview
18F-MGX-38 is a novel, brain-penetrant fluorine-18 labeled positron emission tomography (PET) radiotracer designed for imaging neuroinflammation and innate immune activation. It specifically targets G-protein coupled receptor 84 (GPR84), an immune-metabolic receptor that is highly upregulated on pro-inflammatory myeloid cells (such as activated microglia and macrophages) during central nervous system (CNS) injury or neurodegenerative disease. Developed by researchers at Stanford University, the University of Milan, and the University of Michigan, 18F-MGX-38 features a dimethyl dihydropyrido-isoquinolinone scaffold and exhibits high blood-brain barrier permeability, rapid brain uptake, and favorable in vivo pharmacokinetics. It is currently undergoing preclinical IND-enabling studies to evaluate its utility in imaging innate immune activation in models of CNS diseases.
