Overview

18F-PI-2620 is a next-generation, fluorine 18-labeled positron emission tomography (PET) imaging agent developed for the in vivo detection of tau pathology, a hallmark of several neurodegenerative diseases. It binds with high affinity to aggregated tau protein and enables visualization and quantification of tau deposits in the brain. The compound is currently in Phase 3 clinical development for Alzheimer's disease and has received FDA Fast Track Designation for use in Alzheimer's disease, progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), and corticobasal degeneration (CBD). It is also being investigated for other neurodegenerative conditions such as Parkinson's disease and traumatic brain injuries. The drug was discovered through a collaboration between AC Immune and Life Molecular Imaging, with Life Molecular Imaging holding exclusive worldwide licensing rights[1][4][5][8].
