Overview

18F-PSMA-1007 is a fluorine-18 labeled radiopharmaceutical small molecule used as a diagnostic imaging agent for positron emission tomography (PET) in patients with prostate cancer. It specifically targets the prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA), a protein that is significantly overexpressed on the surface of prostate cancer cells. A key pharmacological feature of 18F-PSMA-1007 is its predominant hepatobiliary excretion, which minimizes urinary radioactivity in the bladder and ureters, thereby enhancing the clarity of imaging in the pelvic region and prostate bed. The Affiliated Hospital of Jiangnan University has conducted clinical trials to evaluate its efficacy in the diagnosis, staging, and monitoring of treatment response in prostate cancer patients, often comparing its performance to other tracers like 18F-FDG.
