Drug intelligence / Profile preview
18F-S16 is a novel radiopharmaceutical PET imaging agent designed as a tau tracer for the in vivo visualization of tau protein aggregates in the brain. It is labeled with fluorine-18 and used primarily for research and diagnostic purposes in neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Alzheimer's disease. The compound demonstrates favorable biodistribution, high anti-defluorination stability, and is mainly excreted via the hepatic–biliary system. In clinical studies, 18F-S16 showed higher uptake in cortical regions of Alzheimer's disease patients compared to healthy controls, correlating with areas of abnormal tau accumulation. The agent has been found to be safe and well tolerated in human subjects[5].
