Drug intelligence / Profile preview
18F-VC701 (also written as [18F]VC701) is a second-generation fluorine-18 labeled radioligand and positron emission tomography (PET) imaging tracer that targets the 18 kDa translocator protein (TSPO). Developed in collaboration between the National Research Council of Italy (CNR) and the University of Siena, 18F-VC701 is used as a diagnostic tool to evaluate neuroinflammation and microglia activation in preclinical models of neurodegenerative and neuroinflammatory diseases, such as multiple sclerosis (experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis, EAE), Parkinson's disease, and glioblastoma. It is a structural analog of PK11195 with high affinity and specificity for TSPO, allowing for high-contrast in vivo imaging of glial activation.
