Overview

19-nor-4-androstenedione is a synthetic anabolic-androgenic steroid (AAS) and a derivative of androstenedione. It is classified as a "prohormone" because it serves as a metabolic precursor to nandrolone (19-nortestosterone), an active anabolic steroid. After ingestion, it is converted in the body into nandrolone and other related hormones with androgenic activity. It was once marketed as a dietary supplement for bodybuilding purposes but has since been banned due to safety concerns and its classification as an anabolic steroid. The drug has no approved medical indications and is not used therapeutically[1][2]. Its mechanism of action involves conversion by endogenous enzymes into active steroids that bind to androgen receptors, promoting muscle growth and secondary male characteristics[3].
