19-nor-dehydroepiandrosterone

19-Nor-dehydroepiandrosterone (19-nor-DHEA) is a synthetic small molecule estrane steroid and a prohormone derivative of dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA). It is structurally related to the anabolic steroid nandrolone (19-nortestosterone) and serves as a metabolic precursor that is converted in the body into nandrolone and other potent androgens. The compound acts as an agonist at the androgen receptor (AR), promoting anabolic effects such as increased muscle mass and strength. Historically marketed as a dietary supplement for athletes and bodybuilders, 19-nor-DHEA has never been approved as a pharmaceutical medication for any clinical indication. Due to its potential for abuse and associated health risks—including hepatotoxicity, infertility, and hormonal imbalances—it was classified as a Schedule III controlled substance in the United States under the Anabolic Steroid Control Act of 2004 and is prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
