2-adamantanamine (AC17) is a small molecule compound developed by Arietis that acts as a potentiator for azole antifungal agents. Identified in a screen for compounds that enhance the activity of miconazole against *Candida albicans* biofilms, AC17 is a structural analog of the antiviral drug amantadine. While it does not possess intrinsic antifungal activity, it converts the normally fungistatic effect of azoles into a fungicidal one. Transcriptome analysis suggests that AC17 affects the ergosterol biosynthesis and filamentation pathways. In vivo studies in guinea pig models of cutaneous candidiasis have demonstrated that the combination of AC17 and fluconazole significantly reduces fungal tissue burden. It is primarily being investigated for the treatment of oropharyngeal candidiasis and biofilm-associated *Candida* infections.
